Artist Statement: My work revolves around the socio-cultural and capitalistic rise of inorganic materials. The abuse of these synthetic substitutions designed to replace precious resources and cut costs was drastic enough that it caused the need to identify a new era. As a maker I am aware of the impact my artwork and creative process has on the environment. I work through those concerns in mixed media. These sculptures consist of collecting and repurposing the materials around me. I also challenge production packaging design by replicating disposable plastic tabs in silver. The stark contrast the disposable objects recreated in precious metal invites a dialogue about perceived material purpose and value. My large and small scale my works allows me to address both the micro and macro issues that revolve around flawed design.
